The ins and outs of Tinnitus.

Signs you may be suffering from Tinnitus, and what you can do about it.

The most common symptom of Tinnitus is a constant and annoying ringing, buzzing or humming in your ear. Aside from the “noise” itself causing physical disturbances for your hearing, those that have Tinnitus also experience difficulties in concentrating, trouble sleeping, and have trouble hearing conversations because of the constant ringing.

What Causes Tinnitus?

Studies have linked Tinnitus to aging, ear wax build up, Meniere’s disease, middle ear infection, untreated hearing loss and otosclerosis (abnormal bone growth in the middle ear). Other studies also show a significant link people that have Tinnitus that have had a head or neck injury. Some of those cases also prove to be the most severe. Their Tinnitus is louder, they may suffer from memory loss and have trouble relaxing in general.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, also known as lock jaw is another probable cause of Tinnitus. The reasoning behind that is simple anatomy. The jaw bone sits very close to the ear and there are many shared nerves. On a positive note if someone is suffering from TMJ and experiencing signs of Tinnitus, treating the TMJ itself can sometimes alleviate the Tinnitus.

Leaving Tinnitus untreated will not only increase the severity of your current symptoms, but could lead to mental conditions, like depression and anxiety.
