Protecting Your Hearing Aids This Summer

Temperatures are rising and that means days at the pool and trips to the beach. We don’t want you to miss out on any of the fun, but you should be mindful of keeping your hearing aids safe and dry.

Moisture is one of the main reasons hearing aids need repair. So unless you have a completely waterproof hearing aid that we have told you is safe to wear in the water, we recommend you have a cool dry place to store your hearing aid while swimming or participating in water activities. A designated container is always a good idea, so you can make a habit of taking it off around water and don’t accidentally jump in the pool with it.

However, we know accidents sometimes happen. If your hearing aid gets wet..

  1. Remove it from the water immediately

  2. Dry off as much as you can with a towel

  3. Remove the batteries and dry the battery compartment

  4. Use a hearing air dryer (dehumidifier) if you have one. If you do not have one we recommend you getting one if you often find yourself in these situations.

  5. Let them dry overnight

**If they are not working properly in the morning, please give us a call and we can see what repair we can do.

We also recommend that you look into water resistant hearing aids if your lifestyle puts you around water a lot, you live in a humid climate, or you perspire a lot! As AudigyCertified® professionals, we are committed to finding you a hearing aid that matches your lifestyle and works for you, so you can enjoy everything you love to do!
